The Scottish Play
Musicians of 18th-century Scotland drew on their native heritage while assimilating the latest musical developments from England and Italy. Trio Settecento's program includes earthy Hebridean fiddling, poetic compositions of Scotland's classical composers, and works of the Italian violin virtuosi Geminiani and Veracini based on traditional Scottish themes.
Florilegium
A masterpiece sonata and an extraordinary fugue by J.S. Bach are highlights in a program that also includes exquisite and rare pieces by Bach's forbears and contemporaries J.H. Schmelzer, P.H. Erlebach, J.P. Krieger, Dietrtich Buxtehude, Georg Muffat and J.G. Pisendel. These composers each assimilated French and Italian influences to create music with recognizably German spirit of deep emotional expressivity. This program is based on Trio Settecento's CD, "A German Bouquet."
Fetes Galantes
Inspired by the paintings of Watteau, the first half of this program evokes a musical soirée at the court of Louis XIV, featuring works of Jean-Baptiste Lully, François Couperin, Marin Marais and Jean-Baptiste Forqueray. After intermission, the cosmopolitan brilliance of Regency Paris is recalled in flamboyant works by Jean-Féry Rebel, Jean-Philippe Rameau and Jean-Marie Leclair. This program is based on Trio Settecento's upcoming CD, "A French Soirée."
An Italian Sojourn
The journey starts with music of Stradella, Castello and Marini, brief, dramatic, pieces from the early 17th century, a fertile era of experimentation in music. It continues with a masterpiece by Arcangelo Corelli, the great orator of the violin whose Apollonian sonatas were the models for all others for over a century. The evening reaches a climax with the passionate and wildly virtuosic music of Pietro Locatelli and Francesco Maria Veracini. This program is based on Trio Settecento's CD, "An Italian Sojourn."
The Classical Piano Trio
The virtuosity of keyboard genius David Schrader is given full scope in a program of trios by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and their forbears. In period-instrument performances, the classical fortepiano and the early violin and 'cello bring warm colors, sprightly rhythmic play and an easy sense of partnership to this essential repertoire.
Trio Settecento would be happy to draw upon its extensive repertoire to create a program specifically for your organization.
